Directions to Solve
Find out the wrong number in the given sequence of numbers.

1.
582, 605, 588, 611, 634, 617, 600
634
611
605
600
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Alternatively 23 is added and 17 is subtracted from the terms. So, 634 is wrong.

@Sammi. Cool reason. Apparently the world sees these things differently. You can come up with many approaches for the same problem but its safe to stick with the ones that are quite obvious.

FYI, approaching a sequence in reverse might not be so obvious. Instead, look for the trend in numbers and try and picture them on a graph.

There is two series of alternate numbers, we can separate it like:

582, 605, 588, 611, 634, 617, 600

1). 582, 588, 634, 600
2). 605, 611, 617

In each number, we add 6 we get next number, ex- 582+6= 588, 588+6= 594, 594+6=600, So here in series it is given 634 instead of 594. So odd number is (634) answer.

Alternatively 23 is added and 17 is subtracted from the terms
582+23=605
605-17=588
588+23=611
611-17=594......
634+23=617
617-17=600
In these series Actually the answer is 594 but instead of tat we have 634 so we can consider 634 as the wrong no.

We can assume two sequence in the problem.

One starting from 582 and other starting with 605 and adding 6 to each term of the sequence.

582+6 = 588
588+6 = 594 instead of this there is 634
and again 594+6=600

Similarly,
605+6=611
611+6=617.

Hi Rekha,

582, 605, 588, 611, 634, 617, 600
If you look into the question you can break the series in two parts...
1. 582,588,634,600
2. 605,611,617

By adding 6 in each of the first number of series you will get the odd one as 634.

If we consider the series;

582+23=605 ----> 1st term
605-17=588 ----> 2nd term
588+23=611 ----> 3rd term
611-17=594 ----> (which is not 4th term) so instead of 634, it should be 594.

One of the obvious reasons I think is that 617 is prime and all others are composite. Why didn't anybody see this? It is I suppose a stronger reason than simple adding and subtracting.

@Shashank

I have one doubt.

588+6 = 594
594+ 6 = 600 then
600+ 6 = .....?

In your point of view, we have options is there..
1) 605
2) 634

Please clarify it clearly.

If we add 6 to every alternate number the alternate number comes same except 600.

Eg- 582 (1st number) +6 = 588 (3rd number).
605 (2nd number) +6=611 (4th number).

If the given explanation is assumed right then the sequence comes like 23, -17, 23, 23, -17, -17. In this case I think that also 600 is odd one.
