It can be 551 as well because only in this number the sum of the extreme two digits is greater than the middle digit.

If you add 1 to every option it becomes a multiple of 3 except for 331. Then why can't we have 331 as the answer?

3 + 3 + 1 = 7(Odd).
5 + 5 + 1 = 11(Odd).
2 + 6 + 3 = 11(Odd).
3 + 8 + 3 = 14(Even) - (Ans).
3 + 3 + 1 = 7(Odd).
5 + 5 + 1 = 11(Odd).

Why not like 3+3+1=7?

4+8+2=14,....like that, except 331 sum of each will return 2 digit value.

Then why not 331 would the answer?

3*3=9 hear for the 8. So read the sentence means odd man out because no multiply in digits so 383 is right.

Answer is 383.

i.e 331 =>3*1=3.

Take first digit and last digit, multiply that you have to get middle digit. But here in 383 if you multiply first and last digit you will get 9 but here it is 383 so that 383 is odd number in that series.
