4.
A watch which gains 5 seconds in 3 minutes was set right at 7 a.m. In the afternoon of the same day, when the watch indicated quarter past 4 o'clock, the true time is:
59 7 min. past 3
12
4 p.m.
58 7 min. past 3
11
2 3 min. past 4
11
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Time from 7 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. = 9 hrs 15 min. = 37 hrs.
4

3 min. 5 sec. of this clock = 3 min. of the correct clock.

37 hrs of this clock = 1 hrs of the correct clock.
720 20

37 hrs of this clock = 1 x 720 x 37 hrs of the correct clock.
4 20 37 4

      = 9 hrs of the correct clock.

The correct time is 9 hrs after 7 a.m. i.e., 4 p.m.

Here seeing so many controversies, I would suggest that if we take the exact accurate value of 925/60.

Then that is equal to 925/60=15.4166666667(if we take 15.41).

Simplification 185/12 that mean 15 and 5/12 part minute.

9 hrs= 9x60=540 min --- 185/12min = 524.58 min.
that means 3 hrs.59 min.35 sec.= 7/12 past 3.

Hey if looking pointwise wats wrong in this :-
3 min = 5 sec

total min. covered uptill 9:15 is : 555 min. =5/3 * 555 == 925 sec (toatl error)

Now converting into min:- 925/60= 15 5/12 min

Subtracting from the time right now to get actually what the error:- 4 hrs 15 min- 15 5/12 min

Ans:- 59 7/12min past 3 hr

Gained time = 925 secs ==> 15 mins and 25 secs.

From 4.15 - 15 mins ==> 4 (only subtracting the 15mins).

From 4 - 25 secs ==> converting in fraction (25/60) ==> need to subract 25 sec ie: remaining of 35/60,

So,3 hrs and 59 mins and 35/60 ==> 59 mins 7/12 past 3. So, the answer is A.

From 7am to 4:15pm the time gap is 9hr and 15 minutes.
actually there is twenty "3minutes" in an hour.
so for 9hrs 9*20=180(3minutes in 9hrs)
in 15minutes ther are five '3minutes'

So total 185'threeminutes'in between 7am to 4:15pm

So total 185*5=925sec(925\60=15) are fast i.e 15minutes

Wrong answer. The correct answer will be A.

7 am to 4:15 pm = 9h 15 minutes.

3 minutes -----> 5 seconds gains.

60 minutes -----> 100 seconds gains.

So, 9h + 15 minutes -----> 9 * 100,

= 900 seconds + (15/3) * 5 = 925 seconds gains.

So, 925 secs = 185/12 minutes.

So, the answer is A.

@Praveen you got simple & sweet logic. My answer was A.
Here it is:

(9*60)+15=540+15=555min.

(555/3)*5=925 seconds=925/60min=15min and 25sec.

4:15pm)-(15min and 25 sec)=3:59:35pm.

35 sec in min= 35/60=7/12min.

59(7/12).

But you got simple one and correct too.
Thanks buddy!

The answer in 59 7/12 min past 3.
because 7a.m-4.15p.m toatl time is 9hrs 15mins
Total 555 secs.
actually the clock gains 5secs in 3mins.
then in 555mins the clock gains 15mins5/12sec.
now the clock shows 4.15.
then less the gaining time.
4.15-15mins5/12=59min 7/12secs past 3.

Time from 7 a.m to 4:15 p.m = 9hr 15min.

= 9*60min+15min = 555min.

3min 5sec clock(wrong) = 3min (correct).

3*60sec+5sec = 3*60 sec.

185sec = 180sec.

If 1 sec = 180/185 sec.

Then 555 min = (180/185)*555.

= 540 min.

= 9hr.

Than correct answer is 7a.m +9hr = 4p.m.

Correct answer is (A).

In 3 min fast is - 5 sec.
In 1 min fast is - 5/3 sec.

In 60 min fast is - 5/3*60 - 100 sec.
So 1 hr fast is - 100 sec.
In 9 hr 25 sec - 925 sec.

Si actually fast is - 900 sec + 25 sec = 900/60+25/60 = 15 5/12 min.

So actual time is = 3 hr 59*7/12.

Simple friends time 7 am to 4.15 pm.
1st we take time 7am to 8am that means 60 min but give its gain 5 sec in 3 min so 60/3 = 20 mins.

Then 20 min * 5 sec = 100 sec that means 1.40 min per 1 hour so now we calculate 7am to 4:15pm, 9 hours = 15 min 4:15 - 0:15 = 4 pm.
