1.
It was Sunday on Jan 1, 2006. What was the day of the week Jan 1, 2010?
Sunday
Saturday
Friday
Wednesday
Answer: Option
Explanation:

On 31st December, 2005 it was Saturday.

Number of odd days from the year 2006 to the year 2009 = (1 + 1 + 2 + 1) = 5 days.

On 31st December 2009, it was Thursday.

Thus, on 1st Jan, 2010 it is Friday.

FROM 2007 Normal year- 1 0dd day.

2008 leap year- 2 odd days.
2009 & 2010 normal year - 1 & 1 odd day.
add all the odd numbers= 5 odd days.
Sunday+ 5 odd day= Friday.

Hi,
A simple technique is;
2010 - 2006 + no. of leap year between them = 4 + 1 = 5.
[There is only a leap year between 2006 to 2010 is 2008]
Now,
Sunday + 5 = Friday.

31 dec 2005 = Saturday
365/7 = 52+1/7
2006= 1 odd day
2007= 1 odd day
2008=> 366/7 = 52+ 2/7=> 2 odd day
then 31 Dec 2008= Thursday
and 1 Jan 2009 = Friday.

@veer singh pal:your answer is partially correct.for years like 1600,1700,1800,1900,2000 etc,we need to divide by 400.for other nos.,it needs to be a multiple of 4.

Pavitra, can you please explain for 1st jan 2008 as it is a leap year how to approach it. The example 16 may 2011 which you have given is for non leap year right.

Hi, I had calculated the day for 23 Jan 1988 and got the answer as Sunday which was wrong in actual calendar. It was Saturday. Could anyone help me to solve this?

@Boomathi.

We know the given year is leap year or not, that year is divided by 4. That number (year) does not give any remainder that year is called leap year.

Odd days came as 5 so it should be Friday not Thursday. We take Sunday as 0. So if we start it from Sunday then till the counting of 5 it should come as Friday.

In a 100 year there should be 25 leap year when that century year is divisible by 4 00 otherwise century year is not a leap year so there are only 24 leap year.
