1.
The ratio between the length and the breadth of a rectangular park is 3 : 2. If a man cycling along the boundary of the park at the speed of 12 km/hr completes one round in 8 minutes, then the area of the park (in sq. m) is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Perimeter = Distance covered in 8 min. = | ![]() |
12000 | x 8 | ![]() |
60 |
Let length = 3x metres and breadth = 2x metres.
Then, 2(3x + 2x) = 1600 or x = 160.
Length = 480 m and Breadth = 320 m.
Area = (480 x 320) m2 = 153600 m2.

Perimeter of the park is actually the distance covered by the cyclist and hence we use the formula of distance, speed and time.

Why we are not using 5/18 formula to convert into m/s?
Can any of you please explain me please ?

I did not understand on how perimeter has a relationship with time and its distance. Please can you tell and explain me in detail. So that I can able to transfer my knowledge to my students.

1hr is converted in to minutes. i.e 1hr = 60min.
1km = 1000m.
12km = 12000m.
12km/hr = 12000/60.
1km = 1000m.
12km = 12000m.
12km/hr = 12000/60.

@manjula: 12000 and 60 are, 12km/hour will be converted into metre...
1km=1000m hence 12km=120000m and hr is converted as sec.1hr is 60 sec
1km=1000m hence 12km=120000m and hr is converted as sec.1hr is 60 sec

Why multiply 2(3x+2x)=1600 ?

Perimeter formule 2(l+b), so we are using.

You said perimeter is 2 (l*b) but in above step perimeter we found as 1600m.
How is it possible two perimeter with different ans?

instead of using perimeter just take the total distance as 10x coz length 2 times of 3x and breadth 2 times of 2x
add both u will get 10x
and just find x usin s=d/t
add both u will get 10x
and just find x usin s=d/t
