The cost of Type 1 rice is Rs. 15 per kg and Type 2 rice is Rs. 20 per kg. If both Type 1 and Type 2 are mixed in the ratio of 2 : 3, then the price per kg of the mixed variety of rice is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the price of the mixed variety be Rs. x per kg.
By rule of alligation, we have:
Cost of 1 kg of Type 1 rice Cost of 1 kg of Type 2 rice | ||
Rs. 15 | Mean Price Rs. x | Rs. 20 |
(20 - x) | (x - 15) |
![]() |
(20 - x) | = | 2 |
(x - 15) | 3 |
60 - 3x = 2x - 30
5x = 90
x = 18.

Type 1 15rs and Type 2 20rs ratio is 2:3 so,
Total 5 parts in which 2 parts type 1 and 3 parts type 2.
= (2*15+3*20)/5.
= 90/5.
= 18rs.
Total 5 parts in which 2 parts type 1 and 3 parts type 2.
= (2*15+3*20)/5.
= 90/5.
= 18rs.

Type1 Rice costs 15Rs/Kg.
Type2 Rice costs 20Rs/Kg.
Given that Type1 and Type2 are mixed in 2:3 ratio.
Let us consider option [A] i.e., 18.
Hence Option[A] 18 is the correct answer.
Type2 Rice costs 20Rs/Kg.
Given that Type1 and Type2 are mixed in 2:3 ratio.
Let us consider option [A] i.e., 18.
15 20
18
=> 20-18=2 18-15=3.
Hence Option[A] 18 is the correct answer.

Hey guys it can be more simple suppose.
You took 2kg type1 and 3 kg type 2.
Type1 cost is 3o Rs and type2 cost is 60Rs.
So new mixture of 5 kg cost Rs 90.
So 1kg = 18 Rs.
You took 2kg type1 and 3 kg type 2.
Type1 cost is 3o Rs and type2 cost is 60Rs.
So new mixture of 5 kg cost Rs 90.
So 1kg = 18 Rs.

Type 1 rice : Rs.15/kg.
2/5*15 = 2*3 = 6.
Type 2 rice : Rs.20/kg.
3/5*20 = 3*4 = 12.
The mixture worth is : 6+12 = Rs.18/kg.
2/5*15 = 2*3 = 6.
Type 2 rice : Rs.20/kg.
3/5*20 = 3*4 = 12.
The mixture worth is : 6+12 = Rs.18/kg.

Hi this is also solve with, avg model formula:
2:3::type1:type2
type1 2 parts rs 15 perkg
type2 3 parts rs 20per kg
So that avg price = (15*2+20*3 )/5 //2+3=5
=90/5
=18
2:3::type1:type2
type1 2 parts rs 15 perkg
type2 3 parts rs 20per kg
So that avg price = (15*2+20*3 )/5 //2+3=5
=90/5
=18
