Discussion Forum : Alligation or Mixture - General Questions (Q.No. 13)
13.
The cost of Type 1 rice is Rs. 15 per kg and Type 2 rice is Rs. 20 per kg. If both Type 1 and Type 2 are mixed in the ratio of 2 : 3, then the price per kg of the mixed variety of rice is:
Rs. 18
Rs. 18.50
Rs. 19
Rs. 19.50
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the price of the mixed variety be Rs. x per kg.

By rule of alligation, we have:

Cost of 1 kg of Type 1 rice Cost of 1 kg of Type 2 rice
Rs. 15 Mean Price
Rs. x
Rs. 20
(20 - x) (x - 15)

(20 - x) = 2
(x - 15) 3

60 - 3x = 2x - 30

5x = 90

x = 18.

single way is think that you buy
2 kg of type 1 rice--> which costs you 2*15 Rs
3 kg of type 2 rice--> which costs you 3*20 Rs

Total price--> 30 + 60--> 90 Rs.
Total weight--> 5Kg,
Average it down--> 90/5--> 18rs/kg.

Given Type 1 cost = Rs. 15.
Type 2 coat = Rs.20.
And the resultant mixture ratio = 2 : 3.
So to calculate Type 1 = 2/5 * 15 => 6/kg
Type 2 cost = 3/ 5* 20 => 12 /kg.
So 6 + 12 = 18/kg.

Simply (2(15)+3(20))/5=18.

2:3
Assume it to be 2 kg and 3kg.
2x15 = 30 and 20x3 = 60.
30+60 = 90.
90/2+3 = 18.

Type 1 15rs and Type 2 20rs ratio is 2:3 so,

Total 5 parts in which 2 parts type 1 and 3 parts type 2.

= (2*15+3*20)/5.

= 90/5.

= 18rs.

HAI GUYS.

SIMPLE WAY: (2:3).

15+3 = 18.
20-2 = 18.

According to the rule of the allegation, the cheaper (min) should be on the left side and dearer (max) on the right side. But why the principle is not used in the solutions?

Type1(c) = 15rs ,type2(d)=20rs and ratio 2:3 find m.

Using a formula : x/y=d-m/m-c:

2/3 = 20-m/m-15,
2(m-15) = 3(20-m),
2m + 3m = 60+30,
5m = 90,
m = 18.

Simple see: you have two mixture one is 15kg and another is 20 kg and you have given they are in ratio 2:3.
Its mean you have 20%of 15kg = 3 and 30%of 20kg = 6
When you will mix them it will be 6x3 = 18kg.
