Discussion Forum : Dice - Dice 2 (Q.No. 3)
Directions to Solve
Six dice with upper faces erased are as shows.
The sum of the numbers of dots on the opposite face is 7.
3.
If dice (I), (II) and (III) have even number of dots on their bottom faces and the dice (IV), (V) and (VI) have odd number of dots on their top faces, then what would be the difference in the total number of top faces between there two sets?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
No. of faces on the top faces of the dice (I), (II) and (III) are 5, 1 and 5 respectively.
Therefore, Total of these numbers = 5 + 1 + 5 = 11
No. of dots on the top faces of the dice (IV), (V) and (VI) are 1, 3 and 1 respectively.
Therefore, Total of these numbers = 1 + 3 + 1 = 5
Required difference = 11 - 5 = 6

The answer is 6 as we are asked to get the DIFFERENCE of the TOP faces of set 1 (i.e. 1, 2, 3) and set 2 (i.e. 4, 5, 6) and in the question we are given that in set 1 the BOTTOM faces are even so the TOP faces would be odd.
So in dices (1) the top face would contain 5, in dice (2) the top face would contain 1 and in dice (3) the top face would contain 5 so the total of set 1 would be 5+1+5= 11 and the total of set 2 would be 1+3+1=5.
So, the difference of TOP faces of both sets would be 11-5=6.

According to question, the difference between the TOP faces i .e 11 - 5 = 6.
As dice(l),(ll),(lll) have sum of BOTTOM faces = 6 + 2 + 2 = 10.
As dice(l),(ll),(lll) have sum of BOTTOM faces = 6 + 2 + 2 = 10.

Even no of dots means 2, 6, 4 not 2, 6, 3.
Even no of dots means 2, 6, 4 not 2, 6, 3.
