Clearly, rails are necessary for the train to move on. Driver alone can move the train. A guard is necessary for safety. A train is moved for the passengers. But all these do not constitute a train. A train can not be called so without engine. So, the answer is (d).

They did not ask for a moving train but simply train so engine is must.

Assume train as whole object! in that engine is a part of it:).

Engine is primary, rails guard and driver can be secondary.

Train without engines is something very absurd.

The thing is that question is asked only about train (as a equipment). So only relevant answer is Engine i believe..

Chinmoy see if a train is standing outside rail then won't you call it a train. You will right? but if the train is without any engine then you will cal it coach not trian. Dats a difference.

Now a days trains are without rails and drivers, And in engine there is no front engine in trains so, engine is must in train.
