Directions to Solve
In this type of questions, one term in the number series is wrong. Find out the wrong term.
17.
3, 2, 8, 9, 13, 22, 18, 32, 23, 42
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The given sequence is a combination of two series:
I. 3, 8, 13, 18, 23 and II. 2, 9, 22, 32, 42
The pattern in I is + 5, and the pattern in II is + 10. So, in II, 9 is wrong and must be replaced by (2 + 10) i.e. 12.

It can be like this- pair of two terms in which first term is multiplied by 2 and then -4 so we get second terms of the pair(pairs 3, 2/8, 9/13, 22/18, 32/23, 42).
3 x 2 = 6-4 = 2.
8 x 2 = 16-4 = 12 ....here is 12th which is right.
13 x 2 = 26-4 = 22.
18 x 2 = 36-4 = 32.
23 x 2 = 46-4 = 42.
3 x 2 = 6-4 = 2.
8 x 2 = 16-4 = 12 ....here is 12th which is right.
13 x 2 = 26-4 = 22.
18 x 2 = 36-4 = 32.
23 x 2 = 46-4 = 42.
