I think the answer is wrong or I don't know whether I understood wrongly if you use this method for solving the problem then the next number should come correctly. According to your method the next number should be 4718-542=4176 but the next number is 4718 ?

For next number, calculate as follows:

4718-471 = 4247.

Consider first 3 digits for subtraction.

Just look at the first 3 digits of every number in the sequence, they are the common difference between that number and next number, eg: '582'4- (582) = 5242.
Now ' 524'2- (524) then we will get the answer.
