Ardentgirl said: (Sep 28, 2010) We have totally 8 people. Jack, Harry, Larry, Paul, Mike, Siman, Robert and Taud. Main condition : Paul occupies one of the 2 middle seats _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 : So 5th or 4th is occupied by him. So remaining 6 seats are there. Now lets take larry into consideration. It is said that harry sits to the immediate left of larry and also they have told that there can be atleast one person next to larry(so it means, the clue here is there is one more person to the left of larry after harry). So now the confusion is what are the seats occupied by the three people. Lets assume that larry has occupied 3rd seat and so harry will take up 2nd seat and one more person will be there after harry. This person can be Robert or Taud or jack or Siman. To select among these options we go for trial and error method using the options A,B,C,D The first option : Robert is there at the left end. There is a possibility for this option to be true. So we eliminate it. The second: Robert is in between Simon and Taud. This is alos possible Third: Taud is in between Paul and Jack This is not possible . Explanation: If taud is in between paul and jack then _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ R H L M P T J S ---> this is wrong becos jack and siman cannot be together. Similarly, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ S H L M P T J S ----->this is also wrong because as per condition "atleast one person should be there to the right of robert" So the correct answer is C.

Mohankumar said: (Jan 7, 2011) The arrangement should be in: harry, taud, larry, mike, paul, siman, robert, jack. The conditions are: 1. Jack is not the neighbour Siman. 2. Harry is just next to the left of Larry. 3. There is at least one to the left of Larry. 4. Paul lives in one of the two houses in the middle. 5. Mike lives in between Paul and Larry. 6. one lives to the right of Robert that is jack. 7. Harry is not between Taud and Larry so taud is between them. so (c) is incorrct.

Shilpa said: (Mar 28, 2011) The order is 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 H S L M P T R J So option C is correct that Taud is between Paul & Jack. Here some conditions are there such as Paul Can only be in 4 & 5th house Then there should be atleast one left to larry so larry cannot be at the left most corner & robert also has one right to it so it cant be on the rightmost corner then Mike is inbetween paul & larry & inbetween means exactly in the middle of paul & Larry. In this sequence all the conditions of the question are satisfied.

Sunit Prasad said: (Jun 24, 2013) JHLMPTRS is the arrangement. 1. J and S are not neighbors, so just assume that they are in the ends J-------S. 2. Harry is just next to the left of Larry so somewhere in between J and S we have HL. 3. There is at least one to the left of Larry. --HL. 4. Paul lives in one of the two houses in the middle. So J--P---S or J---P--S. 5. Mike lives in between Paul and Larry. So HLMP somewhere in the arrangement. 6. at least one lives to the right of Robert and Harry is not between Taud and Larry So, combining all the 6, J---P--S JHLMP--S JHLMPT-S JHLMPTRS So the arrangement is, * * * * * * * * J H L M P T R S.

Swathi Eswari said: (Jun 27, 2013) Jack is not the neighbour Siman S_J_S. Harry is just next to the left of Larry. H L. There is at least one to the left of Larry. - - H L. And Harry is not between Taud and Larry H L M P T J R S. I got the same answer.

Viju said: (Aug 11, 2013) The arrangement is like this. Jack Robert Simon Taud Paul Mike Larry Harry. So that condition mentioned will satisfied.

Rohit said: (Aug 16, 2013) T -L-H-M-P-J-R-S. T is not between the P and J thats why the answer is C.

Ghazaala Yasmin said: (Sep 6, 2013) THLMPJRS this can be one of the arrangement but the position of J, S and T is not specifed clearly.

Venne said: (Sep 13, 2013) J-H-L-M-P-S-R-T. This is the right order according to the conditions which has been given in the question so that T doesn't come in between Paul and Jack.

Sohil said: (Oct 9, 2013) JHLMPTRS. According to conditions simon is right to harry and Robert and it is also not in between Taud and Larry. Answer is: C. SHLMPTRJ. According to conditions jack is right to harry and Robert and it is also not in between Taud and Larry. Answer is: B. So multiple answers are possible.

Alana said: (Dec 24, 2013) Harry is just next to the left of Larry. This condition means harry is in left side of larry. So the arrangement must be like LH. Why all are writing in the arrangement HL?

Kaveri said: (Dec 26, 2013) * There are totally 8 houses. Lets read the details completely first. * From the 4 th point we come to know that, paul lives either in house 4 or 5. So place him in 4 or 5. * From 5 th line we come to know that, mike lives in between paul and larry. So we can place larry either in 2nd, 3rd, 6th or 7th depending on the position of paul. * From 3th line we come to know that, there is at-least one to the left of larry and they can be many and from 2nd line we come to know that the person left to larry is harry. If we consider these points, we cannot place larry in 6 th place and 7th place. * We have to place larry either in 2nd or 3rd position. As we have placed jack in first position we cannot have larry in 2nd position. * Hence we place larry in the 3rd position. Now we have jack at 1st place, harry at 2nd place, larry at 3rd place, mike at 4th place and paul at 5th place. * Now we place siman at 6th, robert at 7th and taud at 8th places respectively. * The final positions are, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. Jack harry larry mike paul siman robert taud. Answer is: C.

 Vishnu said: (Jan 1, 2014) H L M P J R S T. SO option C is correct.

Azhar said: (Jan 24, 2014) We do not need to find J and S position and even it is not clear so the arrangement will be like: J/S R J/S P M H L T SO TAUD IS NOT IN BETWEEN JACK AND PAUL.

Twinkle said: (Feb 10, 2014) J H L M P T R S , should be the arrangement , fulfilling all the conditions of the clues given in the question , and it is clear from the arrangement , Robert is not at the left end, there are three person to the right of paul, Robert is between simon & taud but taud is not between paul and jack.

Vishnu Venugopal said: (Jul 3, 2014) They are living in the order of Jack Harry Larry Mike Paul Taud Robert Simon. So the condition A B & D satisfies so the answer is C.

Shailesh Chaubey said: (Jul 20, 2014) According to given condition seating arrangement is as: Jack-Harry-Larry-Mike-Paul-Simon-Robert-Taud So answer is C only.

Vardhan Mendu said: (Jul 22, 2014) Guys there wont be exact seating with the given information but we can fix the positions of few members i.e H,L,M,P basing on this we have to check the given options, whether they are satisfying the condition or not. Basing on that, From Option 1: Robert is not at the left end. Explanation: Though we can place him at left end but we have to see whether there are alternatives or not by satisfying the condition. In this the arrangement would be J H L M P R T S. From Option 2: R is between S and T. Explanation: In this we can check the probability by satisfying the condition. The arrangement would be J H L M P S R T. From Option 3: T is B/W P and J. Explanation: with this the arrangement has to be S H L M P T J R which is not possible because there should be at least one to the right of J. So this statement is wrong. Hence the answer is C. With the option 4: It is satisfying J H L M P R T S. Hope this explanation clears your doubts.

Roma Asnani said: (May 21, 2016) Harry, Larry, Mike, Paul, Jack, Taud, Robert, and Simran. Points are given as; 1. Jack and Simran, not a neighbor. 2. Larry has at least one left to Larry so it is in left. 3. Mike lives in between Paul and Larry and also in the middle houses.. 4. If at least one lives to the right of Robert which is Simran then obvious Taud and Larry are not in between.. So, as per the statement Taud is in between Paul and Jack.

Javeed Basha Syed said: (Aug 8, 2016) At least "ONE" means at a minimum one one, there can be more than one so condition number 3 and 6 must be changed and the word at least one must be replaced with ONE to get the answer. Other wise there are too many possible answers as @ Global baba mentioned. Still, this gives many possible arrangements but satisfies the answer as "C".

 X Kaliya said: (Aug 18, 2016) There can be 2 seating arrangements. 1. J H L M P T R S. 2. H L M P J T R S. So, the wrong statement is C.

Tdw said: (Dec 21, 2016) I want to clarify some of these conditions, because it seems like they're being interpreted differently by everyone. 2. Harry is just next to the left of Larry. Does this mean Harry is to Larry's immediate left or two to Larry's left? 3. There is at least one to the left of Larry. Does this mean Larry is not in the far left position? How is this condition any different from condition #2? 4. Mike lives in between Paul and Larry. Does this mean Mike's immediate neighbors are Paul and Larry, or does this mean Mike is just somewhere between Paul and Larry?

Shankar said: (Dec 21, 2016) Option C is the correct answer if and only if "between" is interpreted such that X is between Y and Z if Y and Z are the immediate neighbors of X. E.g. In configuration JHLMPTRS, M is between L and P, but M is not between L and T. Were "between" interpreted in the looser sense, where X is between Y and Z if Y is anywhere on one side of X and Z is anywhere on the other side, then there are 3 possible combinations that would satisfy the 7 initial conditions as well as condition C. * HSLMPRTJ * HSLMPTRJ * HRLMPSTJ

RHLMPTJS (J and S together not possible). Or, SHLMPTJR (at least one should be right to R- so this combination also not possible). All other answers A, B and D are not strictly incorrect. Sandhya Peddi said: (Sep 28, 2017) @ALL. Here we have to consider both question and options. Let's check it step-by-step. There are 8 people: Jack, Siman, Harry, Larry, Paul, Mike, Robert and Taud. 1. Jack is not the neighbor Siman. Jack will not be left or right of Siman. 2. Harry is just next to the left of Larry. HL 3. There is at least one to the left of Larry. Means one or more persons be left of Larry. 4. Paul lives in one of the two houses in the middle. Paul will be in either 4th house or 5th house. 5. Mike lives between Paul and Larry. LMP As Harry is next to the left of Larry, we can make it as HLMP. If at least one lives to the right of Robert. Means one or more persons be right of Robert. Harry is not between Taud and Larry. Please keep it in mind. Now the possible arrangements are: (i) HLMPJTRS (ii) HLMPTJRS (iii) JHLMPTRS (iv) JHLMPSRT (v) JHLMPRST (vi) SHLMPRJT (vii) SHLMPRTJ Let's check these possible arrangements with options. [A]. Robert is not at the left end. Each and every arrangement looks good with this option. [B]. Robert is in between Siman and Taud. Only (i), (iii) and (iv) is possible with this option. [C]. Taud is in between Paul and Jack. In the selected three arrangements no one satisfies this option. [D]. There are three persons to the right of Paul. Only (iii) and (iv) is possible with this option. By this, the arrangement may be (iii) JHLMPTRS or (iv) JHLMPSRT. Option [C]. does not satisfy by these arrangements, so the incorrect statement is [C]. So, Answer is [C]. Taud is in between Paul and Jack.

Nikita said: (Oct 12, 2017) The possible order can be HLMPTJRS. It is not necessary for L to have more than one because its written atleast.

Nikita said: (Oct 14, 2017) @Sandhya Peddi. For arrangment (ii) of ur solution how (ii) &(v) is not satisfied. Harry is next to lary and Mike lives between Paul and Larry. So why not this arrangement is possible?

Mathews said: (Oct 26, 2017) The trick here is to assemble the line of names in such a way that all of the conditions are satisfied. As I did that, I found more than 1 answers correct, so I changed the pattern by complying to the conditions and at the same time, trying to get a single option as the correct answer. I got it as : H L M T P J R S. I think many correct patterns are possible and readjusting gives a final single solution and that would be option C.

One live to the right of robert and harry is not in between taud and larry. Answer (c) is correct because it is the only option which doesnot satisy the above statements. A. Kalpana said: (Feb 4, 2021) We have totally 8 people. Now let's take Larry into consideration. It is said that Harry sits to the immediate left of Larry and also they have told that there can be at least one person next to Larry(so it means, the clue here is there is one more person to the left of Larry after Harry). So now the confusion is what are the seats occupied by the three people. Let's assume that Larry has occupied 3rd seat and so harry will take up 2nd seat and one more person will be there after Harry. This person can be Robert or Taud or Jack or Simon. To select among these options we go for trial and error method using the options A, B, C, D The first option: Robert is there at the left end. There is a possibility for this option to be true. So we eliminate it. The second: Robert is in between Siman and Taud. This is also possible. Third: Taud is in between Paul and Jack This is not possible. Explanation: If Taud is in between Paul and Jack then, R H L M P T J S ---> This is wrong because Jack and Siman cannot be together. Similarly, S H L M P T J S -----> This is also wrong because as per condition "at least one person should be there to the right of Robert" So,the correct answer is C.

Aayush said: (Jul 27, 2021) See, according to the question, the position of P,R,L,H,M are known but the position of J,S,T are not known. THE possible arrangement acc to the given condition could be : Harry is just next to the left of Larry & There is at least one to the left of Larry. => H,L Paul lives in one of the two houses in the middle. => H,L,_,_,P,_,_,_. or H,L,_,P,_,_,_,_. or _H,L,_,P,_,_,_. Mike lives in between Paul and Larry. => H,L,M,P,_,_,_,_. or _,H,L,M,P,_,_,_. at least one lives to the right of Robert =>H,L,M,P,_,_,R,_. or _H,L,_,P,_,R,_. Harry is not between Taud and Larry => H,L,M,P,_,T,R,_. or H,L,M,P,T,_,R,_. or _H,L,M,P,T,R,_. Jack is not the neighbour Siman. now we can put J and S in diff positions => j,H,L,M,P,s,R,t. H,L,M,P,t,j,R,s. H,L,M,P,j,t,R,s. H,L,M,P,s,t,R,j. j,H,L,M,P,t,R,s. in every situation we can clearly see, it is not possible to say that T will not be in b/w P and J therefore all the given options are correct.
