This is not true. Population growth itself is not a cause of unemployment, but rather unexpected, rapid population growth. This is because investors predict future Labour growth and build capital to match, allowing the steady state of growth to exist according to the broadly-accepted Solow model of growth.
Not only that, but death clearly has an impact on population, making this entire chain circular, confusing and illogical.
A superior replacement for population would be "recession", making the argument: A recession causes unemployment, which leads to poverty, which leads to disease and then death.

Too much population causes unemployment, which causes poverty, poverty causes various diseases and then at long last person goes dead.
