Amit starts with his back towards the sun.

If the sun is in the East in the morning, his back is towards the East → he faces West.
If the sun is in the West in the evening, his back is towards the West → he faces East.

But here, the question doesn’t specify time of day, so the sun’s position is ambiguous. Usually, in such puzzles, we consider morning (sun in the East) as the default unless stated otherwise.

So, assume the sun in the East at the start → back towards East means he faces West.

Start facing: West (morning case).

After some time, turned left → from West, left turn = South.
Then turned right → from South, right turn = West.
Then turned left again → from West, left turn = South.

Final direction: South.

Step 3 – Try evening case
Sun in the West in the evening → back towards the West means he faces East.
Turn left from East → North.
Turn right from North → East.
Turn left from East → North.
Final direction: North.

So possible outcomes:

Morning (sun in East): South

Evening (sun in the west): North

That means he is going either North or south, depending on the time of day.

Step 4 –“North or South” matches option 1 from the given choices.

When he started at noon, he is facing towards West.

You can't start walking straight towards East, as the Sun has already set to west by that time. You have to start walking towards NE when doing it in the afternoon :)

They haven't mentioned at what time he started his journey.

They should have mentioned whether it is in the morning, evening or noon. Am I right?

But why assume evening here, as it is not asked in the question?
