Guys here 1. Morning (before sunrise/after sunrise)
Sun rises in the East.
So, the shadow is towards the West.

2. Evening (before sunset/after sunset)

Sun sets in the West.
So, the shadow is towards the East.
So accept or learn these conditions and apply according to the question, it is now simple, Sun is in the west and the shadow will be opposite, i.e. east

Step 2: “Hema’s shadow was exactly to her right”
That means when Hema is standing, her right-hand side points toward the East (because her shadow is there).

So:
Hema’s right = East
Therefore, Hema is facing North
(Because when you face North, your right-hand side is East, and your left-hand side is West.)

Step 3: Rekha and Hema are face to face
So Rekha faces the opposite direction of Hema.
If Hema faces North, Rekha faces South.

Evening: The shadow will be placed.

If you are facing East, the shadow will be placed to the front
Similarly,

West-back.
North-right.
south-left.

In the morning:
East-back.
west-front.
north-left.
south-right.

Here Hema's shadow was exactly right of Hema. So in the evening the girl Hema placed towards North. here the question is Rekha facing which direction. So opposite of North will be "South".

So the answer is "South".

@Madhana: If Rekha and Hema were facing East and West respectively. This would be the solution:

                               NORTH
(SUN setting) WEST      Rekha -->  <-- Hema        EAST
                               SOUTH

Then Hema's shadow would be right at her back!

See. It is in the evening. And in the evening, the sun sets in the west. So, before going down, it is in the west not east. Because over the horizon of west. So, the shadow would be in the east and Rekha would be facing the South.

In question they mentioned (One evening *before sunset* -- meaning of before sunset is morning). According to this word, Hema should face towards south and Rekha face towards the north. Here the answer is wrong.

In the morning, if shadow left = north facing.
Shadow right= south facing.

In the evening, if shadow left = south facing.
Shadow right = north facing.

Always remember the tricks.

1) Morning-sun rises in the east.
=shadow towards west Only

2) Evening-sunsets in the west.
=shadow towards west only

If they are facing east and west, it will not holds good, they have not asked where is Rekha shadow facing they have asked for which direction Rekha is facing?

As in the evening, Sun sets in West and it is given that HEMA's shadow is to the right of Rekha.

Therefore, Hema should be facing South and Rekha should be facing North.

See in the evening will do opposite our shadow will be in the east so in right we consider as north and in left we consider as the south that's the basic concept.
