8+6=14 of half of the distance of the room.
So total sides distance covered 2*14=28
And there is diagonals so do diagonals =√{(8^2)+(6^2)}= 10 so,
Ans is 10+24 = 34.
But, here they say about diagonal but not single diagonal so if we consider both diagonals the answer is = 34+10= 44.

From the above diagram,
AB = DC = 8, BC=AD=6 and the diagonal AC form a Pythagoras theorem from both the triangles(ABC and ACD).
Finally, the required distance will be;
AB + DC + BC + AD + AC = 38.
AB = DC = 8, BC=AD=6 and the diagonal AC form a Pythagoras theorem from both the triangles(ABC and ACD).
Finally, the required distance will be;
AB + DC + BC + AD + AC = 38.

@K Anil.
They have clearly mentioned in the question that "a diagonal" that means a single diagonal because 'a' article is used for a single thing or element.

Since its a parallelogram so AB = DC and BC = AD and also ADC is a right triangle (ANGLE ADC = 90°). By this we can find the solution.

@Vaishali that actually doesn't matter.
You can take BD also as a diagonal even then the answer will be the same.

Here, AB and DC are opposite and also BC and DA are opposite so how it can be consider?
