Actually, 6pm hour hand is pointing 6 but they showing 12.,ie North means opposite to the 6pm in that case 15min. Actually showing (east) but the opposite is the answer. i.e west.

At 6:00 pm we have to set direction such that it hour hand become shows the north direction, and we know 12 is just opposite to 12 than minute will show south direction.
But when the time become 9:15 the hour hand move 90 degree in clock and minute hand also move in 90 degree clock wise.
Then at that situation hour hand directed toward east direction and minute hand direct west direction.
But when the time become 9:15 the hour hand move 90 degree in clock and minute hand also move in 90 degree clock wise.

Here all things are reversed. If you don't understand, just reversed your clock and look when it's 9.15 what is the direction of the minute hand. Hope you will get the thing.

When the minute hand faces south at 6.00 PM, then at 9.15 it faces towards East.

Actually 12 became 6 ,3=9 ,6=12, 9=3.
So, at the time of 9:15 min hand will be on 3=9 and in direction of west.
