How can options C and D have 0 gen gap? There is $ which indicates father. So gen gap is always = or >1.

In the question itself given that assume M as a female. So that you can get an answer as option D.

We can use short cut method as They've given that M is wife so obviously Q is Male (husband) and use short cut to solve this problem by taking Q as Male nd M is female ie. M is wife so generation gap of given equation should be "0". If we do this, only C & D will have 0 gen gap so ans must be either C or D.
After this just take 10 sec to calculate relation between M & Q from C & D options.

No, it is wrong because we cannot be determined the gender of M.
