Foiled also gives a meaning of defeated so defeated can also be one of the meaning of baffled.

Thwarted means to frustrate pf baffle. But here they have told to select the word which best suites the given sentence, I also answered thwarted, but foiled is much appropriate.

For baffle best synonyms word is "thwarted", I don't know foiled.

Yes I agree with ravi. Thwarted also means frustrated or baffle.

Thwarted can also be the answer. Thwarted means frustrated or puzzled. Options are not clear.
