Corpulent means fatty, suppose you don't want to hurt a fatty person so you can respectfully say him a corpulent gentleman.

Obese: has the same meaning excessively fat, weighty, overweight etc.

Corpulent means "fat". people usually use it to avoid the use of word "fat/obese". Other words mean/related to "thin/lean/skinny", So "obese" is correct.

Corpulent means fat. He is a corpulent man. Which is having excessive fat.

Where as gaunt means. Thin, skinny, lean.

And lean is thin.

Emaciated is becoming thin, lean etc.

Corpulent comes from two words (corpse+opulent)

Corpse means boby
opulent means in excess,huge,large amount of something(body,money,etc)
e.g:- for opulent-BillGates is an opulent person

I guess obese is the right one because corpulent means a fleshy and plump body.

Eg: the man in the beside house is very corpulent and that is the reason he is not able to walk fast.

CORPULENT: means Fatty Person and Obses also have same meaning.
Lean,Gaunt: means weak (opposite to obses).
Emaciated:means dissolvable
