Sterile means barren, which can't produce anything. Its not necessary that it is a child. It may be crops as well. So barren word is more appropriate.

Barren may related to childless but the exact meaning is can't able to produce it may be a crops or anything hence BARREN is the correct answer.

Sterile means not able to produce children or Young, but barren means too poor to produce much or any vegetation also unproductive.

Sterile means lacking of productivity in crops. Its not related to humans so its not childless. So it is barren.

I think childless is more suitable because barren means unproductive of course but related to soil and farming.

Barren means place where few plant have or less congested.

Sterile means lack of fertility or one can't reproduce. Barrel means a heath or lacking in fertility.
