There is a small grammatical error in the sentence.
The phrase "than copying" is incorrect. It should be "then copy" to maintain a parallel structure.
Corrected Sentence:
"Neeraj said that he would rather fail than copy in the examination".
Explanation:
In sentences with "would rather," the verbs following "rather" and "than" should be in the base form (without -ing or "to").
Thus, the correct structure is "would rather [verb] than [verb]."

@Rashmi.
Copying is in present tense and copy is an activity (which is also used with future tense). So "copying" will be used in" neeraj is copying in the exam". So please make comments and corrections as needed!
