Awaiting the arrival of the minister.

Both of THE are essential can any one help?

Yes, because await means waiting for.

What is the mistake in the following sentence?

"We discussed about the problem".

Awaiting is a transitive verb, we can't use a preposition with the verb directly.

Awaiting for is correct because someone means.
