According to Grammatical rule,if any thing is unknown in discussion, then we use 'about' ,in 2nd case if our problem is already known then we do not 'about'.

In grammar, remember this discusses as a verb does not take preposition "about" and for your further reference please see oxford advanced learner's.

"We discussed about the problem so thoroughly". In this sentence, we don't need to say "so".

Discuss/describe/illustrate is never followed by "About".

@Shivi is right we don't use about just after the discuss/describe/illustrate.

Yes. Since "European" is a word starting with a "Consonant sound (ya)", it must only be "a European".

The verb is usually followed by a direct object, rather than by a preposition so "about (preposition) " after "discuss (verb) " is incorrect.

The word "thoroughly" is complete in itself that there is no use of writing "so" with it.
