None the wiser is the correct answer cause question says that we were none the wiser for all this effort to explain the case to us means they (someone) had explained them about the case but they didn't understand it which vividly seen that 'none' the wiser is correct.

Its an idiom which simply means to be fail to understand something even if it is explained to you.
