Until is (Not + Till). So all options are wrong. The answer must be "It was not till many years" later that Gandhi became a rebel against authority.

And also quest. Implies that Gandhi became rebellious after few years so he wasn't rebellious before so to imply that not should be used.

We can't use unless and not since they both are negative but we can use until and not because until represents time and not negativity.

Not and unless don't come together cause both are negative. Its poor English if you use both simultaneously.
