"when" shall be added to the end of Option P to make a perfectly meaningful sentence. Apart from this, all assumption of the correctness is going in the wrong way.

1st consider the sentence"P: those who impressed me the most", the next sentence should be a description of this sentence. So the sentence S:"were not always succesfull ones" provide a continuation.
So we get a order PS. Now check for options which consists the order PS in it and eliminate all other options. Here only option D contain this and answer will be D.

There is something wrong with the sentence. I don't see any use of "I was a child".
