The answer must be D. Because it does not make sense why the lexicographer first arrange the citation slips and then the dictionary makers make a note of citation slips. Its absurd.

RSQP is correct.

But how does a new word get into the dictionary? The moment a new word is coined, it usually enters the spoken language. The word then passes from the realm of hearing to the realm of writing.

The dictionary makers notice it and make a note of it on a citation slip. When a new dictionary is being edited, a lexicographer collects all the alphabetically arranged citation slips for a particular word. He sorts them according to their grammatical function and carefully writes a definition.

As everyone seems to be saying, the answer must be D and not D.

Proof :- S says - The realm goes on from hearing to writing.

Which simply means the word is heard first and then written.
