I felt the wall of the tunnel shiver. The master alarm squealed through my earphones. Almost simultaneously, Jack yelled down to me that there was a warning light on. Fleeting but spectacular sights snapped into ans out of view, the snow, the shower of debris, the moon, looming close and big, the dazzling sunshine for once unfiltered by layers of air. The last twelve hours before re-entry were particular bone-chilling. During this period, I had to go up in to command module. The dazzling sunshine was "for once unfiltered by layers of air".
For a moment even I thought option A was correct but if we read the above sentence it does not make any sense with the options given.
So option D is correct.

Option D is correct one.
The dazzling sunshine was "for once unfiltered by layers of air". In space there is no atmosphere or no air present around the spacecraft. Hence sunshine is unfiltered by the layers of air!

Catastrophe was imminent so we all know the phrase that "Water of sea remains silent before a coming storm". We can relate this phrase to the question. Means a storm or any kind of destruction is about to come.

I interpreted the answer as A, it would be hotter, even if they are protected and can't feel it. I don't agree with D and believe A makes more sense.

I think D is correct because "unfiltered by layers of air" means that it is earth is covered by atmosphere which again a mixture of layers so I guess its finally "D".
Correct me if I'm wrong!

I think option A was correct as the "unfiltered by layers of air" meant that the rays were to hot as they were direct and not shielded by any thing.

It is option D as the phrase "Unfiltered by layers of air" means the rays from the sun are clearer than in earth's atmosphere and not option A which says the sun is hot.
