I felt the wall of the tunnel shiver. The master alarm squealed through my earphones. Almost simultaneously, Jack yelled down to me that there was a warning light on. Fleeting but spectacular sights snapped into ans out of view, the snow, the shower of debris, the moon, looming close and big, the dazzling sunshine for once unfiltered by layers of air. The last twelve hours before re-entry were particular bone-chilling. During this period, I had to go up in to command module. Even after the fiery re-entry splashing down in 81o water in south pacific, we could still see our frosty breath inside the command module.

As per my view, the question is asking meaning for "for once unfiltered by layers of air" which do not signifies that the sun was very hot no doubt that dazzling means hot but the phrase in quotes does not signify it hence answer is D.

I think unfiltered by layers of air means there is no obstacle between them so no option is right.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

According to me, here "Unfiltered by layers of air" specifies about harmful rays.

The answer should be like "dazzling sunshine with harmful rays".

So, go with option D.

A) "Unfiltered by layers of air" means The astronauts are directly exposed to harmful rays and electromagnetic radiation by the planet star. There is nothing to do with hotness since radiation and heat are completely different concepts. So, option A is wrong.

B) There is no relation with B.

C) Rays such as UV, Infra, Gamma and X-rays cannot be filtered by pollutants. (4 it's referring to gases like OZONE which filters most of the UV rays). So, C is not an option.

D) Hence you can go with D.

It is option D as the phrase "Unfiltered by layers of air" means the rays from the sun are clearer than in earth's atmosphere and not option A which says the sun is hot.

I think option-C is correct.

None of the answers describes exactly what the phrase viz: 'the dazzling sunshine was for once unfiltered by layers of air" to be I would say it indicates multiple particles in the atmosphere which also stands as a danger to the sailing ship. I stand to be corrected.

As per my thinking, A is the correct answer.

Option A has to be correct because it really envelops all the discussions above. Unfiltered, UV or whatever, it means that the rays were direct and hence too hot.

I don't know what is the credibility of the person who is providing these answers because that person is spoiling the basic tenets of the language and logic.
