Extra is right answer because trivial means little importance or tittle necessary. Where as extra means more than is needed. Little importance is not opposite to absolute importance. And opposite to absolute is not absolute like not complete, not pure. Just think a while, you will get the analogy between them.

Yes, extra makes no sense here, the opposite of essential has to be trivial. Essential means very important and trivial means not very important. The opposite of extra would be lesser or less.

Essential - something that can't be done without, so it must be available.
Extra - something that may be around but we can work with or without.

Essential means important, where as trivial means unimportant so answer is trivial and extra makes no sense.

I think trivial should be the right answer as its is the right opposite word for 'essential'.

Essential literally means "very necessary" therefore trivial should be right answer.

I think its answer is trivial because trivial means a little value or importance.

The answer should be trivial. Extra is right but trivial is more accurate.

Trivial should be the best answer though extra and trivial both are right.
