This is the profile form of tooth, it is basically plane curve which is trace by point on circle without slipping & taut string wrapped on the circle it self which is known as base circle. |

Because of the profile shape it is easy to manufacture a gear with involute profile. |

Commanly used forms are involute and cycloid but out of this two involute consists of single curve and allows for some adjustment and also easier to form than cycloid. |
