My name is Sukanta Dey.
I am a 2014 Pass-out, BE in Electronics and Telecommunication Graduate.
Date of written test : 20th February 2015.
Place of written test : SITM, Guwahati, Assam.
Difficulty level of written test was moderate.
*************************Pattern of written test****************************
Total time - 90 mins.
Total questions - 1 verbal email writing + 30 Analytical Questions.
Two parts were there:
1. Verbal section - Here you have to write an email within at least 50 words using the given sequence of words. No negative marks for this section. Time limit for Verbal section 10 mins.
2. Analytical section - Here all total 30 questions were there. First 28 questions of equal weights and the rest 2 questions contain higher weights. Negative marks were there for this section. Time limit for Analytical section was 80 mins.
I attempted 19 questions. Among these, 1 question was wrong for sure.
*NOTE: In verbal section I didn't save the email, and it was showing that I didn't answer the verbal section. But later confirming from TCS executive I got to know that email was autosaved.
On 25th February I got the result of written test. I cleared it.
On 3rd March, I got a mail from HR of TCS Guwahati. Regarding my Date and Time of Interview.
Place of Interview: TCS Guwahati, NEDFI House 5th Floor, Guwahati, Assam.
Date of Interview: 10th March 2015.
Reporting time of Interview: 9 AM
We were waiting for our turn of interview. They have taken the interviews of 2015 batch till 1 PM, so we were waiting.
We (2014 batch) needed to sign a declaration that we can join TCS before 31st March 2015.
After lunch at 2 PM, Interviews for 2014 batch has started. My turn has come at 4 PM.
I went inside interview room.
Interviewer: Just wait few mins outside.
Me: Okay sir.
After 5 mins they called me inside. 3 Interviewers were there.
Interviewer: Tell briefly about yourself.
Interviewer: I am giving you two options. Option 1) I'll ask you only one very tough question, if you can answer it then will be selected or rejected. or Option 2) The normal interview procedure.
Me: Sir, I would go for Option 1.
Int: Are you sure?
Me: Yes sir.
Int: If you can't answer, you will be rejected.
Me: I will answer sir.
Int (pointing his hand towards an unsymmetrical table) : Where is the centrifugal force acting on this table?
Me(After thinking little) : Sir it acts on the center of mass of the table.
Int: But where?
Me: Sir, in the center of mass(CM).
Int: You need to show me.
Me: Sir this table is unsymmetrical, so it's not easy to find the CM of this table unlike a symmetrical body.
Int: That's what I told you before it would be tough question. TCS is a big company. So you cant expect easy questions when I told you that I would ask tough questions.
Me: Silent. But this question was complex, not answerable normally by just looking at table.
Int: You could not answer the question. So now what can be done with you. Do you want us to follow normal interview procedure?
Int: You have passed out in 2014, so what are you doing these days?
Me: Sir, I have been clearing all my doubts of my engineering subjects and doing some on-line courses such as data structures etc.
Int: You din't apply for job or uploaded CV in somewhere?
Me: No. Actually I sat for Campus Interview of Capgemini in 2013, but could not clear GD, so thereafter have not sat for any interview.
Int: Okay. Have you done any computer courses?
Me: Sir I know C, C++.
Int: But have you done any courses.
Int (after observing my CV): What is the difference between CDMA and GSM? (This question was asked as my Project on communication system)
Int: How a signal can be transmitted.
Int: What are the types of modulation?
Me: Drawn AM, PM, FM signal and make them understand.
Int: Why modulation is required?
Int: How signal attenuates?
Int: Can we store AC, DC?
Int: Do you have laptop?
Int: Which one?
Int: So tell me what happens when you start your laptop?
Me: Told that after clicking power button, POST (Power On Self Test) happens then BIOS initializes OS blah blah..
Int: So Where exactly we can get OS in Laptop?
Me: Told, but Interviewer tried to confuse me. Then.
Int: Dint you do any programming courses?
Me: I actually like to do programming courses, so I myself have tried to learn Java, HTML, Python. But I have very basic knowledge of it.
Int: So you know HTML. Tell me what is the difference between C and HTML?
Int: What is the difference between interpreted and compile time language?
Int: You know C++. So tell What is Inheritance?
Int: What is a Class?
Int: What is an Object?
Int: Alright. So you told that you din't clear GD of Capgemini. So what have you done to overcome that.
Me: Since then everyday I watch Times Now at 9 PM and read newspaper everyday.
Int (Jokingly): That's why you are talking like Arnab Goswami.
Me (with smile): No sir.
Int: Okay. Since your selection depends a lot on this table (pointing towards the table of the first question) so I will give you 60 secs. Tell as many lines as you can about that Table.
Me: Told just 4 lines about it.
Int: You have just told 4 lines.
Me: Yes sir.
Int: Rate your interview out of 10 scale?
Me: 6 or 7.
Int: 6 or 7?
Me: Because, I could not answer many questions properly.
Int: Can you join before 31st March if you get the job?
Me: Yes sir, no problem.
Int: Do you have any problem of relocation in India?
Me: No sir.
Int: Are you aware of 2 years Bond?
Me: Yes sir.
Int: Okay, Thank you. You can leave now.
Me: Thank you sir.
My interview was going on for around half an hour. They just try to check your confidence. They will try to confuse you for your every answer. But be confident and answer.
12th March 2015: Got the offer letter via email. Got the job. Got TCS. Yeahhhh :)
Still not sure whether I will join TCS or not.
