Tata Consultancy Services Interview Experience - GIET, Gunupur, Nov 1, 2014
1st round: Written test (Email writing in 10 mins + Analytical problems in 80 mins).
2nd round: Interview round ( TR+HR+MR).
We were very eagerly waiting for TCS as it is a mass recruiter. The day arrived and we were all prepared. We were waiting in the auditorium and suddenly they came and started the Pre-Placement Talk (PPT) and told us about the eligibility (60+ marks in 10th, +2, and B.E) criteria, package (3.18p.a) and other stuffs. This ended in 15 mins and we were told to go to the labs to take the written test. Around 480-490 students appeared for the written test.
First is the Email writing, please friends don't take e-mail for granted this is a major elimination round and if u don't score good in email your analytical section will not be evaluated. Most of my friends did mistake in email as only 10 mins was given. after this you will be redirected to the Analytical section automatically where you will get 30 very easy questions. Now out of the first round 159 where selected and there were 21 more students who were selected out from the top 5 of the branches (Mech, EEE, CSE, IT, ECE). So total was 180.
They told that they will take interview for the cse on that day itself (and i was a CSE guy) i was bit tensed and we were waiting for our turn. Suddenly, my name was called for the technical interview.
Inter: How are u?
Me: Fine sir.
Inter: How was the day?
Me: I was very excited to face TCS.
Inter: So you are not excited now?
Me: I am, and a bit nervous also.
(actually, I was very nervous. He saw my resume and started asking about OS)
Inter: What is OS?
Me: Told, but due to nervousness I missed some points.
Inter: Types of OS?
Inter: Which section of C-programming you are most proficient?
Me: Structures and Unions.
Inter: Write a program to illustrate structures?
Inter: He gave me a sequence and told to write a program.
Inter: Ok sandeep, I am done with you, you may leave.
Me: Thank you sir.
(Then, after 30 mins I was again called for the HR and MR round there were 3 interviewer this time)
Inter: Good evening, Sir.
Me: Take your seat.
Inter: Asked me about my friends.
Me: Told. (Never tell you have less friends and you are in less social)
Inter: Asked how Facebook works and what is Data Analysis?
Me: Partially told and the interviewer was very friendly he continued the rest of the part with the other interviewer.
Inter: Have you ever worked in a team?
Me: Told about my project, where I have worked in team of friends.
(Always be conscious they can trap you anytime he demotivated me by saying that I am not a good team leader)
Inter: They told to explain project.
Inter: Asked about SDLC?
Inter: Which SDLC you have used in your project?
Me: Prototyping model and explained.
Inter: Asked about Testing.
Inter: Asked, what is Deadlock and asked me to use the paper?
Me: Told and drawn the diagram.
(I had missed something in the figure so he started telling me that this is not deadlock and gave me some hint and I corrected then)
Inter: Do you have relocating or shift issues?
Inter: Any questions?
Me: I asked if I get selected, then how can I get placed into there R&D group.
(Both the interview lasted around more than a hour, I expected that they will select me but my bad luck I didn't, out of 180 they selected 101 and I was very happy for my friends)
Friends, please prepare well and be very confident while answering anything even if it is wrong.
Best of luck.
