TCS PATTERN & INTERVIEW - 23 SEP 2006 - BANGALORE
Am Rahaman from koneru lakshmayyih college of engg, Vijayawada. I got selected in TCS through "Bangalore Freshers Drive". After qualifying the test, I attended tech and H.R interview on 14-oct-06. The final selection results were displayed on TCS portal on 23-OCT-06. I felt very happy to see my name in that list.
First I would like to thank Friends MADAM, the owner of site doing the great job. And also I thank all Friends who were publishing their experiences of the tests and interviews they attended.
This placement is divided into 3 parts.
My preparation was completely from previous papers which I had downloaded from Friends TCS preparation kit. Also refer GRE Barons 13th and 14th edition for passages. My test preparation was about 8 days.
Written Test is about 90 min. containing verbal, aptitude and critical reasoning. If you go thru previous papers, you can do it.
My interview was scheduled on 14-OCT-06. This was my first interview, so that I felt very tensed. But, don't do that mistake. You just be cool what ever it may be. They gave me some forms. I filled all those forms. And they sent me to another room to wait . There were many people in that room waiting for call. After, some time I was called for Tech interview.
By seeing the interviewer itself, I wished him. He smiled and said to me to sit. He also wished me like 'howz ur day'. I said 'Nice' sir. He asked me about my Introduction. While I was saying, he is totally observing my resume and form that I filled. Then he started asking questions based on my resume. He asked me questions on pointers, static variables, diff b/w calloc and malloc and some more on oops concepts. I answered to them. After that he asked about socket programming in java, becoz I have mentioned core java in my resume. Then he asked about UNIX INTERNALS. Actually I don't know abt that. I said that am not familiar with UNIX. Then he asked some more questions which I don't remembered to give you here. He said "you can leave now". And am waiting out side for my tech result. After 3 min, another person came and told me to go H.R round.
There was only one H.R person in that room. But he was more than enough. When I entered into room. I wished him. He accepted my wishes and told me to take the seat.
H.R: ok shaik [actually my name is shaik. Rahaman. So he simply referred me as shaik]. Howz you?
Me: Fine sir.

Me: when am giving explanation for that, he stopped in between and switched to another question.
H.R: What are routing protocols?
Me: TCP/IP[ and explaining]
H.R: TCP/IP is not routing protocol? [He is putting stress on me to observe whether am tensed or not. But am behaving like am too cool. In interview eye contact, confidence, loudness are very important for candidate]
Me: In TCP, it would control the data transmission, IP will take care of ROUTING.
H.R: gave me a paper "write the layers of OSI ref. model?
Me: I wrote all the layers and showed to him.
H.R: ok, where TCP/IP lies in those layers. Just represent it.
Me: TCP lies on Transport layer, and IP lies on Network layer
H.R: ok. Do you know about ETHERNET?.
Me: yes, sir. It's an IEEE 802.3 standard for FIBRE cables.
H.R: Represent it in OSI layers.
Me: It lies on Transport layer[ that's wrong]
H.R: just think once again
Me: Its, lie on physical layer, sir.[you must be confident, whether it is wrong or right]
H.R: ok, shaik. Why TCS?
Me: [started] TCS is an leading consultancy services company and it is an CMM level 5 company.....
H.R: Stop. Don't tell that . All guys are telling same thing. Am asking why TCS?
Me: I would like to glow my career with TCS, Sir [his face expressions are like that , he was impressed]
H.R: Why TCS? Why not WIPRO?

Me: Thank you sir.
When I'm coming out side, one lady asked me to wait out side. After 5 min., another guy came and explaining me about 2 years bond and relocation. And I said that I was ready for bond and relocation. He asked me "any queries?". I said "nothing sir". I asked about results ?. he said "see tcs portal after 3 working days" but results came after 9 Days i.e on 23-OCT-06 afternoon.
