In each steps, no cross is increased by 1 by replacing 2 no dots.
So, in the last step, we have 4 crosses and 4 dots which should be replaced by 5 crosses and 2 dots which is in C.

Since there is no way of arrangement of symbol "x", c is correct as.
When 1 dot is crossed 2 dots are lost including the crossed one-1st step.
When 2 dots are crossed 4 dots are lost including the crossed ones-2nd step.
When 3 dots are crossed 6 dots are lost including the crossed ones-3rd step.
When 4 dots are crossed 8 dots are lost including the crossed ones-4th step.
So when 5 dots are crossed 10 dots are lost including the crossed ones-5th and final step-this is the answer.

Yeah. You are right! there is no sequence. In the (E) option.
4 crosses are replaced by dots and 4 dots are removed randomly.
So in the next figure, 5 crosses should be replaced by dots and.
5 dots should be removed. The answer (C) is correct.
