Directions to Solve

Each of the following questions consists of five figures marked A, B, C, D and E called the Problem Figures followed by five other figures marked 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 called the Answer Figures. Select a figure from amongst the Answer Figures which will continue the same series as established by the five Problem Figures.

Note that 1 arch (upper arch) moved anticlockwise (downwards) in (B).

Note that 2, 3 (leftmost arches) are moved anticlockwise in (C).

Note that 4, 5, 1 (right most arches and upper arch) are moved anticlockwise in (D).

Note that 2 arch (leftmost arch) is moved anticlockwise in (E).

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2, next will be 3, 4.

So it's time to move 3, 4 arch anticlockwise which is in (1) image.

That's all.

How do we match the problem figure and answer figure?

Answer is D.

Because in each step, the CW-end element moves to the ACW-end position.

The meaning of anticlockwise is the direction in which we looking into the figure.

Name 1,2,3,4,5 to each symbol in the anticlockwise direction and then reverse the direction of each symbol,

In B the 1 symbol is reversed.
In C following anticlockwise direction reverse the direction of 2,3.
In D now 4,5,1.(Remember since we need to reverse a total of three).
In E now 2( reversing only one).

In next step 3,4(reversing two symbols).

I hope it will be clear now.

Guys take it this way!

Let A) b initial figure.

Now observe fig B) , here topmost arc is tilted, and only one arc tilted in move 1 from initial fig. A).

Now move 2. Make 2 arcs tilted from fig B) i.e. Left most arc below top most and the arc next to it in ACD.

Now move 3. Tilt the next 3 arcs.

Move 4 make only 1 tilt.

Then move 5 make 2 arcs tilted we get answer fig 1.

I still wondering how you moved that arch ACW wise?

No it is not.
