Non Verbal Reasoning - Series - Discussion

Discussion :: Series - Section 1 (Q.No.5)

Each of the following questions consists of five figures marked A, B, C, D and E called the Problem Figures followed by five other figures marked 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 called the Answer Figures. Select a figure from amongst the Answer Figures which will continue the same series as established by the five Problem Figures.

5.

Select a figure from amongst the Answer Figures which will continue the same series as established by the five Problem Figures.

Problem Figures:                          Answer Figures:
  (A)     (B)     (C)     (D)     (E)       (1)     (2)     (3)     (4)     (5)

[A]. 1
[B]. 2
[C]. 3
[D]. 4
[E]. 5

Answer: Option A

Explanation:

One, two, three, one, two, three.....arcs get inverted sequentially. This inversion takes place in an ACW direction.

What is the initial position?

How the arcs inverted?

Divay said: (Jul 27, 2011)
Expalin clearly their movements.

Anil said: (Aug 4, 2011)
Take (A).

note that 1 arch moved anticlockwise in (B).
note that 2,3(anticlockwise) are moved anticlockwise in (C).
note that 4,5,1(anticlockwise) are moved anticlockwise in(D).
note that 2 arch is moved anticlockwise in (E).

So its time to move 3,4 arch anticlockwise which is in (1) image.
that's all.

Top is initial position (it is inverted first in b).

Move anticlockwise direction for further movement.

@Anil-Very well explained

How can we say that they are rotating in Anti-clockwise direction?

I still wondering how you moved that arch ACW wise?

I still wondering how you moved that arch ACW wise?

No it is not.

Guys take it this way!

Let A) b initial figure.

Now observe fig B) , here topmost arc is tilted, and only one arc tilted in move 1 from initial fig. A).

Now move 2. Make 2 arcs tilted from fig B) i.e. Left most arc below top most and the arc next to it in ACD.

Now move 3. Tilt the next 3 arcs.

Move 4 make only 1 tilt.

Then move 5 make 2 arcs tilted we get answer fig 1.

The meaning of anticlockwise is the direction in which we looking into the figure.

Name 1,2,3,4,5 to each symbol in the anticlockwise direction and then reverse the direction of each symbol,

In B the 1 symbol is reversed.
In C following anticlockwise direction reverse the direction of 2,3.
In D now 4,5,1.(Remember since we need to reverse a total of three).
In E now 2( reversing only one).

In next step 3,4(reversing two symbols).

I hope it will be clear now.

What is verbal and non-verbal reasoning?

Shubham said: (Sep 17, 2015)
Answer is D.

Because in each step, the CW-end element moves to the ACW-end position.

How do we match the problem figure and answer figure?

What is ACW direction?

Sadaf said: (Aug 11, 2016)
Note that 1 arch (upper arch) moved anticlockwise (downwards) in (B).

Note that 2, 3 (leftmost arches) are moved anticlockwise in (C).

Note that 4, 5, 1 (right most arches and upper arch) are moved anticlockwise in (D).

Note that 2 arch (leftmost arch) is moved anticlockwise in (E).

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2, next will be 3, 4.

So it's time to move 3, 4 arch anticlockwise which is in (1) image.

That's all.

So, please anyone clearly explains how to understand the series reasoning aptitude.

What does one, two, three arcs mean?

Jules said: (Sep 24, 2016)
In D the bottom right flips, but the top one also flips in this image. Is this a mistake?

Jules said: (Sep 24, 2016)
If it's one, two, three sequences, i.e top left, bottom left, then top right, bottom right, shouldn't the answer be 3?
