The sheet of paper shown in the figure (X) given on the left hand side, in each problem, is folded to form a box. Choose from amongst the alternatives (1), (2), (3) and (4), the boxes that are similar to the box that will be formed.

|When Square side faces you, the shaded region will be in horizontal and in option 4 the region shaded is vertical so it is not true.|

|When you form a cube, from the fig X, the two shaded sides are opposite. So, you may think that both 1 and 4 can be the answer. But when you form the cube, the shaded portions have a different pattern. As pointed by Kashmira, horizontal and vertical.
So when you form the cube option 4 cannot be obtained.

4 will not come because the vertical shading will be on the next half of the face not close to the square face.
