The answer is B because there are many other solutes that must undergo facilitated diffusion to move into cell-like amino acids or to move out of a cell, like wastes. So facilitated diffusion is a passive process, it does not require energy expenditure by the cell.

The answer should be concentration gradient it does not require energy.

Why? Explain.

Passive and facilitated diffusion are without the ATP. Then, how it requires metabolic energy?

Passive and Facilitated diffusion don't require energy though. At least in my knowledge, both rely on the concentration gradient?
