Hacksaw blades moves forward and backward direction. But cutting duration only forward diretion.

During backstroke, it's only you pulling out the blade for another cutting stroke.

Only on the return stroke as at that time the blade is in a tensile mode which prevents the blade from breaking.

Hacksaw blades should be mounted in their frames with the teeth facing forwards.
They are designed so that the blade will cut on the push – the forward stroke – rather than the pull, or backward stroke.
