Either DC reverse polarity or AC current can be used.

Welding cu - direct current with the straight polarity.
Welding mg - direct current with the reverse polarity.
Welding al - AC current.

All belongs to TIG.

Nice explanation @Jjj.

Tig nowadays also called as GTAW gas tungsten arc welding.

Because Aluminum is a non ferrous metal, DC current with reverse polarity is used!

What is the difference of straight and reverse polarities?

Sagar said:   5 years ago
@Chakri.

When your workpiece has given a positive terminal, it is straight polarity. When negative terminal is given to it then it is reverse polarity.

Direct Current Straight Polarity is used for= Stainless steel, Copper and its alloy.
Direct Current Reverse Polarity for = Magnesium,
High Frequency Alternating Current for = Aluminum, Steel etc.
