An arc welding process in which fusion is produced by heating with an electric arc or arcs between a bare metal electrode or electrodes and the work. The welding is sheild by a blanket of granuler, fusible material on the work pressure is not used filler metal is obtained from the electrode and sometimes from supplementary welding rod. Submerged arc welding is used to join two plates and this is used in shipping and some types of industry's.

Because the electrode is made of tungsten so the electrode is non-consumable but in rare cases high heat generated between the workpiece and electrode there is chances to melt the electrode.

Melting electrodes are called consumable electrodes in the process of welding. Non-melting electrodes are no consumable electrodes in the process of welding.

TIG -means- tungsten inert gas welding, here tungsten is used as non-consumable electrode.
