When we talk about centrifugal casting, it can be rotated about any central axis, but in case semi centrifugal casting axis should be vertical.

The correct answer is a symmetrical shape with a vertical axis.
Centrifugal casting is a method that uses centrifugal force to cast symmetrical articles about a vertical axis. This process involves pouring molten metal into a rotating mould, which is typically spinning around a vertical axis. The centrifugal force pushes the metal against the mould walls, creating a dense and uniform casting.
Here's why the other options are incorrect:
- Symmetrical shape about a horizontal axis: While centrifugal casting can be used for horizontal axis symmetry, it's not the most common or ideal orientation.
- Irregular shape: Centrifugal casting is not suitable for casting irregular shapes, as the centrifugal force requires symmetry to work effectively.
- Non-ferrous metal only: Centrifugal casting can be used for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including alloys.
Centrifugal casting is commonly used for producing:
- Pipe fittings
- Cylinder liners
- Bearing sleeves
- Gear blanks
- Other symmetrical parts
The benefits of centrifugal casting include:
- High density and uniformity
- Good surface finish
- Reduced porosity
- Improved mechanical properties
