There are Liquid fuels like Biodiesel and there is real progress in Ethane as fuel also but it has not become commercial because they can be produced their own country without support from oil rich answer powerful countries.
As Indian mechanical Engineers you should take that responsibility to manufacture cars which can run on bio-diesel or solar energy cost-effectively.

All commercial fuel are compounds of hydrocarbon hence they are derived from petroleum products as they contain different hydrocarbons.

Crude oil is the primary form of oil, by purifying that we get diesel and further purifying we get petrol.

Methanol and ethanol are also used for fuel in some places, which are not derived from natural crude.
