Option D is correct. We know that Carnot engine has a maximum efficiency that is valid for reversible engine only. So, option D is correct.

I think option D is correct because if you see all the heat engine diagram, they are all cyclic hence reversible. And the reason why they are made to operate in cyclic or reversible range is because you get highest efficiency in that range.

I think there is difference between engine and cycle.
As Otto cycle has maximum efficiency than Diesel cycle but efficiency of petrol engine is less than Diesel engine.
So reversible cycle has maximum efficiency but reversible engine has less efficiency than irreversible engine. So answer is C.
