Thermodynamic cycle is consist of linked thermodynamic process that convert heat into work.
So heating and expanding is thermodynamic process but not a cycle.

Thermodynamics process tells about store the thermal energy and transfer to mechanical energy. Not tells about heating and expanding of a gas. !
