Long column failure occurs only bending or buckling. So negligible is correct answer.

Long column mainly fails due to buckling or bending, so the effect of direct stress is negligible in a long column.
Short column fails due to crushing or direct stress.

Direct stress is nothing but tensile or compressive so in long columns bending stress is more compared to as direct stress.
