The formula wrote for thin cylinders i.e. pd/2t for maximum hoop stress and minimum stress is pd/4t not of thick cylinder.

Since tangential stress = PD/2t and longitudinal stress = PD/4t.

Longitudinal stress is half of tangential stress.
