And conversely when torsion is applied, spring cross sections are under bending.

Open coiled Wire subjected to Shear stress and spring subjected to tensile or compressive as load.

What kind of stress will be developed in open coiled helical spring when subjected to axial load? Please anyone explain.

Why not the option B) shear.

For spring exist bending, torsion, but the application of force decides which one is more than the other.

They are made of wire coiled into a helical form, the load being applied along the axis of the helix. In these type of springs, the major stresses are torsional shear stress due to twisting. They are both used in tension and compression.

In closed coiled spring bending effect is ignored and assumed that the coil is a pure torsional stress.
